FAQ

1) When do you plan to release him?

On the GOW3 release date, so probably some time in March 2010.

2) How much is completed?

No numbers, sorry. We just don't see "the light in the tunnel" yet.

3) Who is spriting and who is programming?

Spriting: Doom
Programming: Kratos

4) What will he play like?

  • Kratos will be a character who concentrates on combos (duh). His gameplay will be very similar to the original games. But since this is a mugen adaptation, simply pressing a single a button and doing extensive combos would be a bit cheap, and well easy. So you're gonna have to chain the combo's together yourself, using some directional buttons with the attack buttons. Our goal is to make him easy and fun to use, but still requiring some skill if you want to do some big combos.
  • You will be able perform ground combos, as well as aerial combos. And ground to air combos.
  • Kratos will utilize all 6 buttons, but will only attack with 4 of them. The other two will be block and a weapon system.
Buttons Map:
  • A - light/medium punch
  • B - hard punch
  • C - block
  • X - light/medium kick
  • Y - hard kick
  • Z - weapon system

5) Why a block button and not the regular method of holding back?

  • It's true to the original games.
  • Holding back to block is easy. Kratos is a tactical character. People are not used to using a button to block, and it will take more skill on their part to master this character.
  • Considering what's planned for his gameplay, it will be natural. Especially when it comes to some things like the Golden Fleece...

6) Will he have fatalities?

  • If Kratos does have any fatalities, you won't see an actual Fatality screen. This isn't Mortal Kombat and it wouldn't go with him very well.
  • Much like the original games, fatalities would most likely be in the form of QTE finishers. Though this is all still being worked out. If we include them, we want to make sure it's done right.

7) What weapons will he have? A weapon system?

The weapon system will be on the fly. That means no graphical inventory. Kratos will use a weapon button. That means you can setup for some pretty sick combo's by weapon switching during them. Here are just a few that we have planned:
  • Typhon's Bane - A magical bow and arrow-like weapon that allows Kratos to fire rapid blasts of wind.
  • Blade of Artemis - This is a large, curved, cumbersome blade given to Kratos by the goddess Artemis. It is quite slow, but also does more damage to enemies than the Blades of Chaos.
  • Barbarians Hammer - A slow but powerful close combat weapon originally wielded by the Barbarian King. With it, Kratos can deliver powerful slams and smashes, and also summon legions of souls.

8) How long does it take to sprite?

About 30 min a sprite.

9) What series is your Kratos from? Why?

  • We feel there is much more potential for gameplay and story if we focus the character on GoW 2 and 3. GoW 1 is a great game, but GoW2 expands upon it and really breaks into Kratos' persona.
  • The story is deeper, and we get to see much more of Kratos’ abilities. We haven't learned much about GoW 3 besides what's available for public knowledge, but what we have seen so far is very interesting and could make it's way into the character.

10) Will you make other chars from the GoW series?

Probably not. Just making Kratos is taking an enormous amount of dedication. And, this will be our way of saying goodbye to the mugen community.

11) Can I be a beta tester?

NO, because:
  • We're two people, so, if one of us misses something, it's likely the other will find it.
  • We love the mugen community, but unfortunately it's not very trustworthy when it comes to betas. Perhaps if the community were different, as in more trustworthy, this wouldn't be a problem. But We aren't taking any chances with a character that we worked so hard on.
  • It's not fair to people who don't have the character. It will be available for everyone at the same time.
